Asian Ethnology Open Access Statement and Policies
Asian Ethnology is a fully open-access journal, providing free and immediate access to all published content to ensure the widest possible dissemination of research. The journal operates under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0), which permits users to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, link to, and reuse the full texts of articles for any lawful purpose, including commercial use, provided that appropriate credit is given to the original author and source.
Authors retain copyright of all published material. Upon acceptance, authors grant Asian Ethnology a non-exclusive license to publish and distribute their work under the terms of the CC BY 4.0 license. This approach supports global knowledge exchange, enhances the accessibility and impact of published research, and ensures the integrity and proper attribution of scholarly work.
Users are permitted to engage in a wide range of uses—including reading, downloading, copying, distributing, printing, searching, linking, and incorporating articles into databases or teaching materials—without requesting prior permission, in accordance with the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI) definition of open access.
Submission Fee Policy
Beginning July 2025, Asian Ethnology will charge a US$10 submission fee for all manuscript submissions. This fee covers the use of Scholastica, the online platform that manages our peer review process. Scholastica enables us to efficiently coordinate submissions, reviews, and editorial decisions while maintaining a high standard of scholarly integrity and independence.
The fee is processed securely through Scholastica at the time of submission. It is non-refundable, and there are no additional charges at any stage of the publication process. Asian Ethnology remains a diamond open-access journal—we do not charge article processing fees (APCs), page charges, or publication fees.
This modest submission fee supports the sustainability of a professional and transparent peer review system, while ensuring continued free and open access to all published content.
For further details on our peer review process, please refer to the Asian Ethnology Manuscript Submission and Style Guide. Information on submission procedures, ethical guidelines, and the journal’s policy on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) is also available here.
